This is Fiesta time in San Antonio! Here is a fun little song in Spanish that you can teach your K-1 students: (video downloaded from YouTube

If you have MacMillan/McGraw Hill "Spotlight on Music" you can find this song on First Grade CD 9:28.
"Mi Cuerpo, mi cuerpo hace música!
Mi cuerpo, mi cuerpo hace música!
Mis manos hacen (clap, clap, clap)
Mis pies hacen (stomp, stomp, stomp)
Mi boca hace 'La, la, la!'
Mi cuerpo hace 'Cha, cha, cha!'"
I have created a SMARTboard lesson to teach the song and vocabulary. Download the SMARTboard file from my wiki

| You can add a clip of the correct pronunciation of each phrase. I edited the pronunciation track from Spotlight on Music in GarageBand (can also be done on Audacity). Since I don't have rights to the track, I couldn't share the file with the recordings. You can use these slides to teach the students each phrase. |
 |
| On this slide, I added a sound clip of the song being sung in Spanish. |
 |
| On this slide, I added a clip of the song being sung in English. |
 |
| On these slides, I added cheers on the correct picture. |
I also teach the Kinders and First Grades "La Camilla" from the Spotlight on Music First Grade CD 9:05. It is in AB form and I teach the students to listen to the difference in the melody so they can "dance" in a circle on the A section and swing their partner in the B section. They get very good at recognizing the change in the music.
For upper grades, you could teach "La Raspa" which is in rondo form. This song is also known as the "Mexican Hat Dance."
Here's an example of one way to do the Mexican Hat Dance from YouTube

Thanks so much for this post! I teach in two very rural schools in Wisconsin, but I love incorporating songs from other countries when I can. (Maybe it is the fact I grew up traveling because of being a Navy brat, but I have a strong appreciation for other cultures and backgrounds) I have been wanting to teach some Spanish songs, since some of my students are taking Spanish, this will be a great song to introduce! :)
